Where the style comes from
Inscriptional Roman capitals were cut into stone, which is why they have flared stems, sharp triangular serifs and no lowercase. Those constraints produce letters that read as permanent and official — exactly the association a series about dynasties wants.
The show’s version adds a slight wear to the edges and sets the words very wide apart, which does more for the effect than the letterforms themselves.
Setting it well
- Use capitals only — a Trajan-style face has no real lowercase, and faking one breaks the illusion immediately
- Open the letter-spacing well beyond normal; the title card is spaced almost to the width of the frame
- Warm grey or bronze on near-black looks closer than pure white
