What font is the Blade Runner logo?

The 1982 titles use a wide geometric sans set in light weight and spaced very generously — the opposite of a heavy logo, and part of why the film still looks modern.

The 2017 sequel kept the geometry but tightened it and added weight, which is worth knowing before you pick a substitute.

The fonts here

  • Induction is the closest to the original — wide, light and geometric, with the same open counters.
  • Injekuta Lt is squarer and slightly technical, closer to the sequel’s treatment.
  • Michroma is heavier and wider, useful when the light weight disappears at small sizes.

All three are free to download and use, including commercially.

Where the style comes from

Science fiction of the late seventies and early eighties leaned on wide geometric sans faces because they read as engineered rather than drawn — the same instinct that put similar letterforms on aircraft panels and computer terminals of the period.

Setting them light and wide, rather than bold, is what makes the result feel cold instead of loud. That spacing decision matters more than which of these three you choose.

Setting it well

  • Track the letters out until the word looks almost too loose — then stop, because that is the look
  • Keep the weight light; adding bold turns it into a games logo
  • A faint warm glow behind the letters does more than any outline or drop shadow

Frequently asked questions about the Blade Runner Font

Is the Blade Runner Font free to download?

Yes. Induction, Injekuta Lt, and Michroma are free to download on this page. Check each designer's terms before commercial use.

Is this the exact font used for Blade Runner?

Not exactly. The original lettering was custom drawn or is not publicly licensed, so the fonts here are close recreations. Induction is the nearest match we have found.

Can I use the Blade Runner Font commercially?

Treat that as two separate questions. The font file needs a licence that permits commercial use, which is set by whoever made it. Separately, the brand name, logo and characters are trademarks, so recreating a logo can infringe even with a properly licensed font. For merchandise or client work, check both.

How can I preview the Blade Runner Font with my own text?

Type anything into the generator on this page and it renders instantly in the real font file, then exports a transparent PNG. Nothing you type leaves your browser. Our font generator at https://whatfontfinder.com/font-generator/ does the same across the whole library.
