What font does Minecraft use?
Two different answers get mixed together here, and the difference decides what you can actually download.
The Minecraft logo — the chunky, chiselled wordmark on the title screen — is custom artwork. It was drawn with beveled stone-like edges for that one purpose and was never released as a typeface, so there is no complete alphabet of it to install. Any site offering you “the Minecraft logo font” is offering a fan recreation, whether or not it says so.
The in-game font is a different thing entirely: the pixel typeface used for menus, signs, chat, item names and the inventory screen. That is the one most people actually want, because it is what makes text read as Minecraft, and unlike the logo it covers a full character set.
The font on this page
The font in the generator above is Minecraft by Idrees Hassan — an independent recreation of the in-game UI typeface, built from scratch to match how the characters look in the game. It contains no files or assets from Minecraft itself.
It ships in Regular and Bold. Because it is a pixel design, it looks sharpest at whole-number sizes — 16px, 32px, 48px and so on. Half sizes make the pixel grid fall between screen pixels and the edges go soft, which is the usual reason a pixel font looks slightly wrong.
Can you use it commercially?
The font file is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits personal and commercial use, modification, and redistribution. That is unusually generous for a fan-made recreation and it is why we can host the file here at all.
One distinction worth keeping straight, because it catches people out: the licence covers the font file. It does not give you any rights to the name Minecraft, the logo, or the game’s artwork — those are Mojang and Microsoft trademarks. Setting a word in this typeface is fine. Selling merchandise that presents itself as official Minecraft product is a trademark question, and no font licence changes that.
